Biography of Jie Hye Lee



Jie Hye Lee is beloved as the illustrator of brightly imaged and productively designed picture books for very young children.


She is making her first children’s book, MoA’s cookie-letters, main character, MoA and his best friend, Bung-Bung, these two friends who go on a search for the letters of the Korean alphabet that are hidden throughout the book. Jie hope that to create an interactive book that will teach children a new language in a fun and practicable way. This book involves an adorable storyline and activities that will further assist the reader in learning the new language.


Born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1984, Jie Hye Lee immigrated with her parents to U.S.A when she was nineteen years old; She was educated there, Yedule Art Academy. She learned about so many basic techniques, and she studied with many younger students. Most of time, she taught them. She realized how much educated children is important. So, she kept study of illustration from the Maryland Institute collage of art, Baltimore, in Maryland. When she took Book illustrated class, she realized what she wants to create for children. She wants to be an art teacher in elementary school and study for art teaching degree, too.


Selecting a language book, Jie Hye Lee has to learn both language, Korean and English. When she learns English, many text book made her forgot reason to learn. It was so boring and ineffective sources. Also, she has been teaching Korean to younger children in Korean school for three years. She realizes that she has to make interactive and effective language book for children.


Jie Hye Lee’s art is characteristic and instantly recognizable. Her art work is created in simple and basic computer technique, using hand-drawing in paper, which she cuts and layers to form bright and cheerful images in Photoshop. She uses a digital color in Illustrator. Many of her images have added teddy bear elements to give them a playful quality and motivate to focus on. Children also enjoy working in characters and elements.


The themes of her stories are usually drawn from her extensive imagination and love of language. Being adorable and enjoyable, her books always present the child the opportunity to learn new language about the world around them. It is Jie Hye Lee’s concern for children; she believes that creativity and intellectual growth children. In addition to her adorable artwork, makes the reading of her books such a motivating and lifelong experience.


The spirit of making Jie Hye Lee’s books’ appears in her perceptive understanding of and respect for children, who is really hope in our next future.
